In Japan we partner with Star Asia Group.

In 2014 we established GSA Star Asia, a joint venture between GSA and Star Asia Group, to address the significant shortage of student accommodation for domestic and international students.

The venture also supports the Japanese Government’s Top Global University Project, a strategy to increase the number of foreign students enrolled at Japanese universities.

Hakusan House was the first property to be developed by GSA Star Asia. Located in the Hakusan area of Tokyo’s Bunkyo-ku district, a residential and educational centre in the city, Hakusan House opened in January 2018 and primarily serves the University of Tokyo. It is home to 364 Japanese and international students.

Across 4,500m² of space, Hakusan House features high quality, specially designed student apartments as well as a lounge, theater room, study space and barbecue space and other shared areas. A communal kitchen is designed to foster community and create a collaborative environment for students.
