In December 2020, GSA became the first international student housing asset owner to enter the U.S.
In December 2020 GSA entered the US with the acquisition of a portfolio of 27 properties. In December 2021 we cemented our presence in the market with a multibillion dollar JV with a fund advised by Morgan Stanley Real Estate Investing (MSREI) to invest in US student housing.
This long-term strategic JV enables both GSA and MSREI to substantially grow our exposure sector and aligns with our growth strategy to become a market leader in US student housing.
GSA continues to grow the portfolio, which today comprises over 18,000 beds across 23 states and 34 cities. Many of our properties are situated in prime locations next to major universities and research institutions, including next to Power Five schools in Alabama, Oregon, Washington, Arizona and Kentucky.

GSA in Austin, Texas
In 2022, GSA entered the Austin market with the acquisition of Yugo Austin Waterloo, an exceptional new residence that is home to 796 students in the center of Austin’s student district, West Campus. We continued our momentum in Austin with the acquisition of three further assets - Yugo Austin Nueces, Yugo Austin Rio, and Yugo Austin Corner.
Together, these properties offer students a range of product type and price points and the potential to share facilities, such as conference rooms, terraces and gym spaces. By providing a range of product and price points in Austin, we benefit from high retention levels across our portfolio, with students choosing to live with us throughout their student years.
